Scripture
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
Proverbs 22:6
Comment
Prince George was christened this week. Regardless of our denomination and views on infant baptism it provides an opportunity to think about children. I’m sensitive to the fact that whether we can have them or not it seems that children can be a source of both blessing and sadness.
But as parents and family members how do we start children on the right way?
I guess that children learn life from their parents so they’ll learn which way they should go from their parents and close family. So it would be helpful if we modelled the way we want our children to go.
Prayer (for couples)
Dear Lord, We lift up our children to you. Help us to be a positive influence on their lives and to point them to you. As parents or grandparents or just family members help us to model what it looks like to follow and trust you so that they might do the same. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Dear Lord we pray for ….. and …. and for other couples in our community.
Help them to be a positive influence on the lives of their children and children close to them, and to point them to you. Amen.
Final Quote
The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them. (Proverbs 20:7 NIV)
