‘Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.’ Romans 15:7 NLT
Comment
Marriage is a lifelong process of learning to live together. We do this by accepting one another. I find it easy to accept some aspects of my partner’s character and behavior – the ‘good’ bits …. However, I must admit that there are some things I struggle with.
We can’t change other people but we can change ourselves – our attitudes. So when I am struggling it helps me to try to remember three things:
- I am not so perfect myself – far from it
- Jesus accepts me just the way I am
- Accepting my partner honours God
Prayer (as a couple)
Heavenly Father, thank you that you accept us just as we are. Please give us a greater understanding of your acceptance of us because of Jesus. Help us to accept one another in a way that brings greater harmony and unity into our marriage and honours you. Amen
Prayer (for others)
Heavenly Father, thank you that you accept all people just as they are. Please help …… and …… to know your acceptance of them through Jesus Christ. Help them to accept one another and build a marriage of harmony and unity that honours you. Amen

“Lord grant me the sincerity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Saint Francis of Assisi
