Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
Comment
‘Yoke’ is a strange word today which can conjure up many pictures. The one I love is of two beautiful shire horses walking in step, pulling equally together, ploughing a straight furrow. This I understand takes a lot of practice and expertise on the part of the master. Each is listening to the soft voice of their master and the feeling of the gentle tug of the bit in their mouth. It is the master who has his eyes set on the end of the furrow!!
Remember Jesus promised that His yoke is easy (not difficult) and His burden is light (not heavy).
Prayer (as a couple)
Father we do thank you that your burden is light. Help us to learn how to walk in step with each other and pull equally together. May we be open to hear your voice and be able to respond to your gentle tug to the left or right on the ‘bit in our mouth’. When we do pull together we will keep your will and purpose for our lives. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Father, we pray for _____ and _____ who are finding their yoke difficult at the moment and not easy to pull together with the tension between them. Help them to find time together to listen to your voice and to take on your yoke. Amen.
Final Quote
