Scripture:

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 NIV UK

Comment:

Recently our family borrowed a river boat and spent a day travelling along a stretch of the Thames. For most of us, six adults and two small children, it was our first experience of navigating through locks. All hands were needed, to crank or steer or keep children from falling into the water; to watch and take photos and say ‘Well done!’. It could have been managed alone – we met one gentleman who lived on the river and spent his days going up and down all by himself. But it works so much better with a team. And it’s a lot more fun!

Who is your team? For myself, my husband is my main man, then there are my close friends and my grown-up children, my home group and church. I could not possibly navigate through life solo. It would be very lonely, and I don’t think I’d make it. Jesus wants us to work as a team, to carry burdens and encourage and be there to say ‘Well done!’ when our teammates have steered through difficult waters.

Prayer (as a couple):

Dear Lord, help us to see our family and close friends as a team. Give us grace to be willing to bear others’ burdens and not to be shy about saying ‘Well done!’

Prayer (for others):

Lord Jesus, we especially pray for _______, who seems so alone. Help them to find their team.
