Keep on asking and you will be given what you ask for.  Keep on looking and you will find.  Keep on knocking and the door will be opened.  For everyone who asks receives.  Everyone who seeks finds.  And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.  Matthew 7:7-8

We once heard the Korean pastor Yongghi Cho speak about prayer at the Royal Albert Hall.  His English was faltering but the message of this outstanding man of faith was compelling.  I remember one story he told; in the early days of his ministry he had a problem visiting all the Christians who were in need of his encouragement and help.  ‘Lord! Send me a bicycle’.  he prayed but no bicycle came.  One week later he asked the Lord why this was and sensed the reply was ‘how can I send a bicycle if you don’t tell me what colour it should be?’  ‘Oh Lord!  Yellow!’ responded Cho and lo and behold, a few days later a canary-coloured bike arrived on his doorstep by some mysterious means!

I try to remember this lovely story whenever I ask God for something specific and am amazed at how my prayers are often answered.

Prayer (as a couple)

Discuss together something specific to ask God for.

Gracious Father, thank you for your goodness and generosity to Your children.  We ask You to _____.  Help us to be expectant and look for Your answer; then we can give them the glory to You and rejoice in how You reach into our lives.  Amen.

Prayer (for others)

Father we pray for _____ and _____.  Please increase their faith and trust in You about those things they need from Your hands.  Encourage them to pray really specifically and believe that You will hear and lovingly respond.  Amen.
