Greet each other with a sacred kiss. Romans 16:16 (NLT)

Comment

In the early days of our relationship we very naturally showed each other affection; touching, kissing, holding hands…

We would also often say things like: “I really care for you.” “I love you.” “You’re so special.”

If you’re still naturally affectionate, celebrate that!

If, like me, you’re not regularly expressing affection to your partner then ask yourself why? I need affection and I think my husband does too. So what gets in the way?

In my case I realise that I’m far too busy working and often putting other priorities before my husband’s, and my own, needs. I think I’m beginning to realise  how silly that is because my marriage is too precious and life is short.

This week ask each other: how important is it that I show you affection? Pray together about your needs.

Prayer (as a couple)

Father God, we thank you that you have made us to be affectionate creatures. Thank you that we can show our love with words and touch. Please help us to bring greater affection towards one another every day. Please help us to deal with anything that gets in the way so that we can have a marriage that’s filled with love.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Prayer (for others)

Father God, we pray for … and … Please help them to show one another affection through their words and touch. Please also help them to deal with anything that gets in the way of being affectionate so that they can have a marriage that’s filled with love.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Final quote

“Never chase love, affection or attention. If it isn’t given freely by another person it isn’t worth having.” Anon.
