May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer – may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love. Proverbs 5: 18-19

Today is the third of a series of five prayers leading up to Marriage Week (10-16 May). The theme of this year’s Marriage Week is Naked Marriage and we’re looking at the bare essentials of marriage.
I don’t know about you but I think our culture is obsessed with sex. I find that we are bombarded with messages – subtle and unsubtle – that cheapen it.
However, I think it’s wonderful that there are passages in the Bible that celebrate sexual intimacy. I’m also rather glad that God intends for the marriage bond to be expressed physically as “one flesh” and he wants sex to be good and mutually satisfying.
I’ve learned that when my husband and I are better connected emotionally – through good communication and tenderness – the better our sex-life is.
Reflect together on what things shape your ideas about sexual intimacy. How you might you explore God’s ideas and deepen your intimacy as a couple?
Prayer (as a couple)
Father God, we thank you that you invented sex! We thank you that you intend for us to enjoy mutually fulfilling sexual intimacy in marriage. We ask that you would help us and bless us with deeper love and intimacy – emotional AND physical – in our marriage. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Prayer (for other couples)
Father God, we pray for … and … Please help them to know your ideas about sexual intimacy. Help them to see it as something natural and a beautiful part of their relationship. Please enable them to have open and honest communication about all aspects of intimacy and to grow a deeper and more satisfying sex-life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
