Summing up: Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble. That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing.  1 Peter 3:8-9 (MSG)

Hopefully, by now you’ve realised that we write these ePrayers NOT as couples who have the perfect relationship but as couples who are aiming to have the marriage God’s wants them to have. So I have a confession – I’m not perfect! And fully embracing a traditional English trait, as well as a family one, I can be quite sarcastic! Sometimes as a couple this provides us with laughs, other times when my spouse has done something that irritates me for the 20th time, it provides sharp & hurtful put downs. I need to pick up humility and bite my tongue. My job is to bless my other half and build them up not put them down.

Are you being a blessing to each other?

Prayer (as a couple)

Lord Jesus, we’re sorry for the times we put each other down with sharp-tongued sarcasm or other words. Help us to choose to pick up humility & bless each other in all circumstances. Amen

Prayer (for others)

Lord Jesus, we pray for ______ and _____.  Help them to choose their words to each other carefully.   Amen

Final quote

Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit — you choose.  Proverbs 18:21
