“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 NIV
Comment
I’ve just returned from a weekend conference where we were all challenged to be the ‘Light of the world’.
It struck me that when two lights shine together they are brighter, can be seen from further away and by more people.
We live in a dark world where bright lights are needed more than ever. What are the needs of people around you? How can you and your partner work together to ‘let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven’?
Why not pray and discuss this and then step out in faith to be lights together, trusting that God will do it though you? If you have children perhaps they could join in?
Prayer (as a couple)
Dear Lord, thank you that you live in us and with you we can do good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. Please unite us and guide us, empower and equip us to do the deeds that you’d have us do in our local community, to the Father’s glory Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Dear Lord we pray for _____ and _____ and for other couples in our community. May you give them a new spirit of boldness to do good deeds and glorify you. Amen.
Final quote
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8.12.
