“You do not have because you do not ask God.”— James 4:2

Comment

Many of us were never taught how to ask for what we need — especially in close relationships. Instead, we hint, withdraw, or hope our partner will just know. When needs go unspoken, disappointment often follows.

Asking clearly is an act of courage and vulnerability. It gives our partner the chance to respond — and helps build honesty and trust. Asking isn’t demanding; it’s inviting connection.

Reflection

What need might you struggle to voice — and what makes it hard to ask?

Prayer suggestion (as a couple)

Ask God for courage to speak honestly about your needs and grace to hear one another well.

Prayer suggestion (for another couple)

Pray for a couple who may be misreading each other — that clarity and understanding would grow.

Final quote

“Clear asking is a gift to love.”
