One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles. Luke 6 v 12-13
Comment
At the end of our holiday – usually in September when we close our caravan for winter, we go up a near by “mountain” to think about the past year and to pray about the future. It has enabled us to get a sense of perspective. Being high up on a “mountain” somehow helps.
Jesus took time out on a mountain to get wisdom from God about his choices.
Can you and your partner find a mountain? – the one we climb is only a hill really!
Prayer (as a couple)
Lord as we come to the end of our holiday, we are thinking already about our work and commitments. We need your perspective on our lives. While we are still on holiday, help us to hear from you and also from each other. Help us to have courage to make any necessary changes. Amen
Prayer (for others)
Lord, we pray for our church leader and his wife. May they have a really restful holiday and please help them as they take stock of their work and also their personal lives together. May they have wisdom from you for the days to come and courage to follow through Amen
Final quote
Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you. Carl Sandburg 1878 – 1967
