Scripture

“For the eyes of The Lord range through the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” 2 Chronicles 16:9

“Suppose one of you had a hundred sheep and lost one. Wouldn?t you leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the lost one until you found it? When found, you can be sure you would put it across your shoulders, rejoicing, and when you got home call in your friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Celebrate with me! I’ve found my lost sheep!? Count on it, there’s more joy in heaven over one sinner?s rescued life than over ninety-nine good people in no need of rescue.” Luke 15:4-7

Comment

Sometimes as Christians, we pick up this image of a God whose ‘eye’s are ranging through the earth’ to pick up on bad stuff we’re doing, as if he’s going to tick us off or blast us off the planet. This can lead to negative thinking including guilt and resentment, which can also then impact our relationship with God & with each other.

BUT this is so NOT who God is. God is constantly searching for our hearts and as a shepherd checking that we’re not wandering away from him. His mission is to strengthen our relationship & draw us closer to him.

This is even more impacting when we pray as a couple. It’s a good way of helping each other draw closer to God.

How are you doing in your relationship with God? Are you wandering?

Prayer (as a couple)

Father, thank you for constantly looking out for us. Please show us any areas where we are wandering and help us to keep close to you. Amen

Prayer (for others)

Father ? we pray for _________ and _________ who seem to have wandered away from you. Please rescue them and show us ways in which we can help them draw closer to you. Amen.

Final Thought

Notice when the shepherd found his sheep, he had a party! When was the last time you let your hair down??!
