I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.  John 15 v 1-2

Comment

Today we took down a large beech tree in our garden. We planted it 20 years ago – but it grew huge! It made too much shade and everything else in the garden was suffering. A hard decision – to remove a good thing to gain a better result in the big picture. We have to review our marriages every so often. Some elements of our lives can grow out of all proportion and take all the light and all the energy.

If this touches a nerve, talk and pray together – share your feelings – avoid blame. Pray together for a wise action plan.

Prayer (as a couple)

Father God- help us to see where good things we chose in the past are hindering our life together for the future. Please give us courage and resolve to talk together and make the necessary changes. Amen

Prayer (for others)

Lord God –sometimes we have grand ideas which then become enormous burdens in our lives. It’s so hard to let go of what seemed such a good idea. We pray for ……(names) who seem stuck. Please show them a way forward and help them struggle free. Amen

Final quote

A strong man can say I got it wrong: a weak man keeps on pretending.
