Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 (CEV)
Comment
As a couple we are very different. There are many things my husband is not! DIY is not his strong suit and whereas I adore anything to do with the sea, he feels unwell just driving across the Thames on Waterloo Bridge. And I acknowledge my own shortcomings; a little untidiness in my approach to life and poorly disguised disinterest in Welsh rugby.
How easy it is to focus on things we wish we could change rather than on the characteristics we appreciate, to criticiseinstead of accept. Let’s take the opportunity to praise our spouses for the things they’re great at and remind them of some of the reasons we fell in love and love them for still.
Prayer (as a couple)
Dear Lord, help us to accept one another and affirm each other’s strengths and gifting’s. May we be quick to praise and reluctant to criticise, and when there are difficult issues, gentle and up building. Thank you for (name’s) qualities of _____ Please remind me to express appreciation more often. Amen
Prayer (for others)
Father, we pray for _____ and _____ who in many ways are like ‘chalk and cheese’. Please help them to appreciate the different personalities, gifting’s and opinions each have and grant them grace, patience to accept one another as You accept us through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
Final Quote
Let us seek to express our love from sincere hearts, with kindness and patience.
