Enjoy life with your wife whole you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:9 NIV
Comment
King Solomon, despite his riches, power and numerous women, obviously considered life depressing! Yet in the midst of the trouble and strife described in Ecclesiastes he recognised the wonderful gift of married love.
The tenderness and joy we can find in the later years of marriage are precious, keeping us through both bright days and dark nights. Marriage is a relationship for the long haul; God designed it for us to share pleasure as well as pain together.
We may feel a long way from retirement and old age, but time accelerates with the passing years and it will be upon us sooner than we may imagine. If all goes well we will grow old together and the one we love, blessed by God.
Prayer (as a couple)
Loving Lord, we thank You for the years we have shared together so far, with all their ups and downs, the difficult periods in our relationship and the wonderful times too. Please help us to enjoy each other’s company even into old age. May we grow in patience and understanding, comforting each other, laughing together and keeping our love vibrant and alive. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Father, thank You for the example of _____ and _____; married for so many decades, raising their family and serving you in so many ways. We are so encouraged to see them still ‘in love’ and pray they will enjoy many more happy years together to be a blessing to each other, their family and friends and a witness of Your faithfulness and undying love. Amen.
