Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you. Romans 15:7

Comment

One of the greatest gifts we can offer our partner is the freedom to be fully themselves with us — to speak honestly, admit when they’re struggling, get something wrong, or share something vulnerable without fearing how it will be received.

Emotional safety doesn’t mean we always agree or never challenge each other. It means creating a relationship where honesty is met with curiosity rather than judgement, and vulnerability is handled with care.

We won’t always get this right. But every time we listen before reacting, soften our response, or make room for our partner’s experience to be different from our own, we help to build a safer place between us.

Reflection

What helps you feel safe enough to be completely yourself with each other? Is there anything you could do to create a little more of that safety?

Prayer suggestion (as a couple)

Ask God to help you become a safe and accepting presence for one another, particularly when something difficult needs to be shared.

Prayer suggestion (for another couple)

Pray for a couple who find vulnerability difficult — that trust and safety would gently grow between them.

Final quote

“Safety grows when we discover that we can tell the truth and still be loved.”
