Scripture
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.'” Genesis 1:27?28 NIV
“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'” Matthew 28:18?20 NIV
Comment
We had a men’s outreach curry night recently and Mark Melluish came to speak. He talked about legacy. He asked ‘What was our purpose? What did we want to be remembered for’?
Without purpose we are like corks on the sea, going whichever way the wind blows.
One of our purposes as husband and wife is to reflect and multiply God’s image. We do this in the way we behave and in what we do and say and bring up our children.
Perhaps my wife and I could be more intentional in the way we talk about Jesus. We need to discuss this, pray and maybe make some changes.
How about you? What has Jesus done in your lives that he’d like you to tell others about? Perhaps you should ask him?
Prayer (as a couple)
Father God, we, filled with the Holy Spirit are part of your plan for reaching the World. May we know and feel your love and love you more. Nudge us to make changes that please you. Help us to talk about you and reflect your image in a way that honours you. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Father God, we lift up ?. and ?. to you. May they know your pleasure and your purpose in a fresh way. Help them to talk about you in a way that is helpful to others and which glorifies you. Amen.
Final Thought
An atheist once said: ‘A believer who keeps their faith to themselves could only be described as selfish!’
