For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.
Isaiah 9: 6-7
Comment
This is the second in a series of reflections and prayers for Advent. Traditionally two candles would be lit on Advent Sunday and maybe this week you could light a candle when you have your time together to reflect and pray.
There are some days when I feel all is well. There are other days when I’m grumpy, anxious and irritable. What makes it worse is that I know it affects my husband when I’m like that so then I can add a layer of guilt on top…with a cherry on!
I am so much better on those days when I’ve connected with God’s PEACE. When I’ve laid down my feelings and struggles through prayer and confession. Jesus cleanses me with forgiveness and restores the bond of peace with him…the Prince of Peace.
With peace in my heart I am more able to be a peacemaker myself, in my marriage and in other relationships.
Reflect and discuss together: Where, and how, do I find peace in my life?
Prayer (as a couple)
Heavenly Father, we thank you for Jesus, Prince of Peace. Thank you that he gives peace that passes understanding to a world full of discord and suffering. Thank you that he gives us peace in our hearts, marriages and families through the Holy Spirit. Father God we pray that you would give us opportunities to tell others about our source of peace during this advent season. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Heavenly Father, we pray for … and … Please help them to find peace in their relationship. We pray that you would help them resolve their issues, forgive and be reconciled. We pray that they would know you as the source of forgiveness and peace. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Final Quote
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all. Philippians 4:6-7
