Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
Comment
There was huge excitement this week at the birth of a new royal baby. Looking every bit the proud Dad, Prince William grinned ruefully and said ‘Thrice the trouble!’ about his expanding family. He’s under no illusions about the pressures that parenting brings.
This verse brings good wisdom to those of us who have influence on children, whether as parents or family members.
Children learn life from their parents and close family so it’s vital we model well how that looks. Particularly in our marriages, they will learn from us how to communicate well and how to resolve conflict. What are we modelling to the children in our lives?
Prayer (as a couple)
Dear Lord, we lift up our children to you. Help us to be a positive influence on their lives and to point them to you. As parents or grandparents or just family members help us to model what it looks like to follow and trust you so that they might do the same. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Dear Lord we pray for _____ and _____ and for other couples in our community.
Help them to be a positive influence on the lives of their children and children close to them, and to point them to you. Amen.
Final Quote
The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them. Proverbs 20:7 (NIV)
