Holidays – Differences

Jesus and the disciples try to get away for some rest …

Then because so many were coming and going that they did not even have time to eat, he said to them “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest”.  Mark 6:30-34

Comment

Jesus planned for his disciples to have some peace and quiet We all need recreation time!  Sometimes it doesn’t quite work out as we plan!

Holidays are important times.  But in a family or as a couple individual’s expectations can be different.  One of you may be looking for peace and quiet along with a slower life style, the other may be hoping to do some exciting water sports or sight seeing.  Children also want lots of attention and exciting things to do.  Sometimes holidays can get a bit fraught!

We need to talk together about our needs and expectations and learn together about rest, quiet and space as well as stimulating new activities.  We need to practice and model a balanced life style.

Prayer (as a couple)

Father God, thank you for holidays when we can rest and have some fun together.  We want our holidays together to be memorable and we want to take the opportunity to get closer.  Please help us to talk and listen to each other.  Please help us to plan wisely so that everyone benefits.  Help us to learn about balancing our lives between work and recreation.  Amen.

Prayer (for others)

Father God, we pray for _____ and _____.  Please help them have a really good break this year.  May they come back refreshed and may they have lots of fun together.  Amen.

Please help _____ and _____ who can’t go away for a holiday this year.  Please help them to have fun and refreshment and good ‘family together times’ during the summer months.  Amen.
