In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1,14
Comment
The early Church had no buildings, programmes, power or advertising; yet it grew. What was it they had that attracted so many? Jesus was full of both Grace and Truth. Truth oriented folk like scripture and theology they’ll stick to the rules but are sometimes quick to judge and slow to forgive…. they can be harsh and unattractive. Grace oriented folk love freedom and forgiveness but can neglect studying the Bible and see obedience and moral standards as ‘legalism’… they can be unreliable and unsafe.
Problems occur when we choose one over the other. Have you got both to the right measure?
Prayer (as a couple)
Dear Father. We come to you flawed and incomplete and we want to be more like Jesus. Please forgive us for the things we have done wrong (be specific if you can). Holy Spirit come again and fill us so that we may better reflect what Jesus is like; better to live with, more distinct, more attractive to others and more full of Grace and Truth. Amen
Prayer (for others)
Dear Lord. Thank you for _____ and _____. We pray that they will grow a new understanding of Grace and Truth and become more like you; distinct, like a light on a hill. May they reflect your image to those around. Amen |
