Apples of gold

“A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.” Proverbs 25:11 NIV

Comment

When some people compliment me I often ignore it. I think – ‘well they would say that’. However when a closer friend says the same I might pay more attention. When my partner eyeballs me and affirms and encourages me it goes deep. We’ve been together a while now. She knows me better than anybody on this planet. She has a unique ability to build me up… or tear me down.

Words are so powerful, so important. I guess we should be loving, careful and intentional in what we say.

What could you say to build your partner up?

Have you fallen into unhealthy habits regarding what you say, or don’t say? Perhaps you should check? Why not discuss this together?

Prayer (as a couple)

Dear Lord, My tongue is powerful and can be dangerous. Help me to control it and help my words to be your words. Help me to encourage and build _____ (partner’s name) up. Help me to stop tearing _____ Down because he/she is my friend. For I ask in Jesus’s name. Amen.

Prayer (for others)

Dear Lord we pray for _____ and _____ and for other couples in our community. Help them to recognize the power of their words and to become expert in building one another up. Amen

Final Quote

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. James 1.26
