O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;
my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land
where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1 (NLT)
Comment
How do you feel about what’s in the news these days?
I have to admit to feeling downright depressed when I hear about what’s going on in the world … global pandemic, climate crisis, wars, murder …
Do those things depress you?
Or, do they stir longings in you?
I feel led this week to use the first part of Psalm 63 as a reflection and prayer. Where are you God, when it hurts? The world so desperately needs the Living Water that Jesus brings. Come Lord Jesus!
Talk to your husband or wife this week about your own longings for God. Where would you want to see God at work in your lives, others …the world?
Prayer (as a couple)
Heavenly Father, we search for you with our whole hearts. We pray for you to quench our thirst and fulfil our longings. We pray for you to come to us by your Holy Spirit. We pray for you to enter our marriages. We pray for you to come to our needy world. Come Lord Jesus! Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Heavenly Father, we pray for… and …. We pray for them to recognise their longings for you: your love, forgiveness, healing, righteousness and power. We pray that they may know you and follow you. We pray that you would fulfil their deepest longings by meeting with them and bringing transformation of their marriage. We pray in Jesus name. Amen.
Final Quote
“May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
