Growth

… but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.  Mark 4.19

If we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from unrighteousness. 1 John 1.9

Any athlete will tell you that you need to practice to get better. The same applies with spiritual growth… we need to put God’s word into practice. This is what somebody seeks to do if they love and trust God.

Sin effects our relationships with God and with each other. Sin chokes growth. We all sin so we’d better learn how to deal with it if we want to continue to grow. Confessing our sins is one answer, as soon as we are aware of them. When we do this we’re forgiven by God… immediately.

What do you need to confess?

Prayer (as a couple)

Dear Lord. Thank you we are on a journey with you and that we grow as we step out in faith. Help us to love you more and to be more trusting and obedient. Help us to stop our growth being choked by unconfessed sin. In particular I confess ……… and receive your promised forgiveness, in Jesus’ name. Amen

Prayer (for others)

Dear lord. We lift up …. and …. to you. Help them both to grow spiritually through putting your word into practice. And please Lord, help them to obediently confess their sins so that they may grow closer together and closer to you. Amen

Final quote

“If you’re not growing your dying” (a well known mantra)
