Gloom

Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners in iron chains…….He (God) breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron. Psalm 107:10-16

Comment

Here the reason for the deep depression seems to be rebellion and disobedience. That is not always the case; but certainly it is true that sometimes poor decisions and wrong actions result in great unhappiness. It can feel  like being in prison – especially if we have not been forgiven or can’t forgive ourselves.

The great thing is that God will always forgive us when we “cry to the Lord,” and we can learn to forgive ourselves and each other too. How amazing!  The prison walls are broken and we are free!

Have you been forgiven by God?  By each other?

This is part of your redemption story

Prayer (as a couple)

Thankyou for forgiving us our sins Lord. It cost you everything. Help us to spend our personal resources by forgiving each other. Help us relish the freedom this brings to our marriage and our family life. Amen

Prayer (for others)

Lord we pray for our friends (or family members) _____ and _____ who are in deep gloom at the moment. Lord we pray that whatever the reason for their darkness, you will break them out of the dark prison they seem to be locked up in. You are the redeemer Lord. Please free them.  Amen

Final quote

Love covers a multitude of sins
