So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

Submit to one another out of reference for Christ. Ephesians 5.21

Comment

“Men can’t see dust” according to one author. If I’m in any way typical that might be related to lack of motivation to do anything about it – but I guess that’s the author’s point. The book explores the different ways the brains of men and women are wired. Generalisation is always tricky and personality has a part to play – but recognising that I’m quite likely to communicate, react and handle conflict in a different way to my wife can ease misunderstanding and the resultant tension.

One couple on a marriage course commented that they’d been struggling with the concern that they might be incompatible because they were from different races. It was quite a relief to them to realise that a lot of the issues were simply because they were male and female.

Prayer (as a couple)

Father, thank you for ___ and the different qualities he/she brings to complement mine and to enrich our relationship. Help each of us to be on our guard against automatic reactions that can cause unnecessary tension and differences. Amen

Prayer (for others)

Father, we pray for ___ and ___  Thank you for the ways in which they’re in harmony. Where we see a lack of harmony between them, help each to take a step back and make allowances for the things that don’t matter, so that they can see clearly to deal with the things that do. Amen
