Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21&22
HOW MANY TIMES??? Forgiving others is tough and doesn’t necessarily come naturally.
However, the power when we do forgive is phenomenal. It releases us from being bound by anger and hurt about what was done to us, and frees the person we are forgiving from guilt and pain. It also brings us closer together. This verse is challenging but also encouraging us to cultivate an attitude of forgiveness.
Prayer (as a couple)
Dear Lord, thank you for forgiving us ALL our sins. Help us to forgive each other daily and please reveal to us any hurts that we still need to forgive. Amen
Prayer (for others)
Heavenly Father, we pray for ____ and ____ who are struggling with hurt and pain caused by each other. We pray that they will recognise your forgiveness of them and take the first steps towards forgiving each other. Amen
To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that prisoner was you. Lewis Benedictus Smedes
