Scripture
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Comment
My wife came up to me earlier this week and said the following:
“I’ve just been praying for you and I want you to know that you are a lovely man. You are kind and sensitive and wise and strong and I love you and I want you to know that”.
I’ve been floating on her words all week.
It’s amazing how our nearest and dearest have the ability to build us up. My wife knows me better than anybody I know. If somebody else had said those words then they would have not had the same impact. She has the ability to build me up like no other.
How can you build your partner up?
What specific behaviour or attributes could you encourage?
Prayer (as a couple)
Dear Lord, Our words can build up our loved ones or bring them down. Help …. (partner’s name) and me to be a blessing to one another. Help me Lord to become more skilled, effective and intentional in the way I build him / her up. May I recognise and encourage the behaviour and attributes that you want me to encourage. Help me to speak out your and my approval in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Dear Lord we pray for …. and …. and for other couples in our community.
Help them to become expert encouragers of one another and to seek opportunities to build up one another with the truth in the power of the Holy Spirit, in a way that please you. Amen
