I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your cup of joy will overflow! John 15:11

God wants us to have joy. After a difficult winter, weather wise, we’re delighted to see the evenings becoming lighter, crocuses peaking out and the frogs are getting frisky in our pond! All these signs are promises of spring approaching bringing joy and breeding anticipation for good times ahead.
I was reminded of this same anticipation listening to the radio yesterday. The presenter was chatting to his co-presenter about Alphabet Dating which he had embarked on with his ‘Mrs’. They were taking it in turns to choose a letter from the alphabet and go on a date either beginning with or including things beginning with that letter. Much hilarity ensued in the discussion as listeners were encouraged to suggest what date the letter ‘X’ would be. But I was struck by the sense of anticipation and joy in his voice at the thought of planning these dates with his partner.
Do you still date each other? Creativity in the way we date brings anticipation and excitement into the date, which can breed joy in our relationship and the promise of good times ahead.
How about planning something different. It doesn’t have to be the Alphabet Dating idea, you choose!
Prayer (as a couple)
Father, please help us to be creative in our time together so that we have fun and experience more of your joy in our relationship. Amen.
Prayer (for others)
Father, we pray for ……………. and ………………. Please bring joy and promises of good times ahead to their relationship. Amen
