“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Matthew 7:25-27 NLT

Comment

I can remember my Mum dismissing this passage as unrealistic! I was shocked as she was a good Christian! But we probably do the same!

Count up the time you spend browsing the internet on recipes, clothes, planning purchasing, or checking investments, insurance … the list is endless! It seems really “grown up” and responsible to spend time doing all these things.

Jesus has a different way – He reasons from the base:

God is our Father. We will never outgrow being his child. He will always take care of us and he doesn’t want us to become independent and caught up in the cares of life! It will distract us from being with him.

Everything Jesus says about living life is built on the foundation of our relationship to God as his child – it changes everything. It gives us rock solid security. So worry is illogical! Read the rest of the chapter!

What are you worrying about? Share with your husband/wife. Pray about it together and encourage each other to be carefree.

Prayer (as a couple)

Father, forgive us for conforming to the world around us – worrying and stressed about life and change and the future. Help us get a grip of the truth that we are your children and you will always hold us in your love and provide for our needs. Help us make it our priority to know you and live in your kingdom. Amen

Prayer (for others)

Lord we pray for our family – our children, our parents, our siblings. We bring their concerns to you. Lord we want all of them to be in your family and enjoy the experience of being your child and carefree. Send your Holy Spirit to reveal the good news. Help us do our part. Amen

Final quote

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
