(Jesus said…) “at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” Matthew 19:4-6
Comment
Our culture is constantly questioning the value of marriage and faithfulness. Jesus said we are meant to be a committed team. I know there are sometimes terrible circumstances where it is the right thing to separate, but friends who have experienced divorce tell me it is NOT the easy option.
Personally we’ve just celebrated 30 years of marriage and I’m grateful for my marriage. We’ve had our ups and downs like all couples but I have found great freedom in our commitment to one another. I feel free to be myself because I know my husband loves me just the way I am. I also know he has promised to stick by me whatever happens. I trust him.
What does commitment and faithfulness mean to you?
Prayer (as a couple)
Father God, thank you for the faithfulness you show to us through Jesus. Thank you for the commitment and faithfulness we show to one another. Help us to stay close and faithful every day… until death us do part! Amen
Prayer (for others)
Father God, we pray for … and … Please help them to show daily commitment and faithfulness to one another in their relationship. Help them to work though any difficulties and build, or rebuild trust. Amen.
