‘I always thank God when I pray for you!’ Philemon 4
Comment
Being grateful for, and to, one another is so very important in marriage. Most of us feel taken for granted from time to time; whether it is for the financial provision and security we provide, emotional support or the never ending round of preparing meals and caring for the mundane needs of a family. We spend years encouraging our children to say ‘thank you’ and ‘please’ and appreciate it from one another too. Sometimes it is easier to say ‘thank you’ than others – those are probably the very occasions when we perhaps should just swallow our pride, our resentments and whatever else is causing a negative feeling and just say it! To our spouse and also to our Father God – giver of all good things and people.
Prayer (as a couple)
(each partner praying in turn) Loving Lord, thank you for … for all s/he does and is. Help me to express my gratitude and deliver me from dwelling on things about her/him that make me grumpy! I am truly grateful to You for giving us to each other. Amen
Prayer (for others)
Father, we pray for ___ and ___ going through a difficult time in their marriage relationship. Please open their eyes to the blessings You have given to each of them through each other. Amen
Final Quote
