We speak many words in any day. Some are throw away comments of little value. The word described here is different.
- A word that fits the occasion or need.
- A word that is precious and valuable like a work of art fashioned of gold in a silver setting.
What sort of words might they be? Encouraging, wise, Godly, kind? In any case a word to be remembered and cherished. Can you remember something your husband/wife said to you that you cherish like this? What “precious jewel” could you speak to him/her today? Ask the Holy Spirit to help.
Prayer (as a couple)
Father: help me to be an encouragement to my life partner. I realise that hasty or idle words are wasted. In 2021 help me discipline my tongue. Lord, give me words that build our relationship, give us wisdom from listening to you and feeding on your word together. May we give each other precious gifts from you this year. Amen
Prayer (for others)
Think about friends and family where words are barbed or just cheap.
Father we ask you to help ______ and ______ in their family life and especially in their communication with each other.We pray that negativity, judgment and criticism will be recognized and banished. Please help them to replace such words with hope encouragement and wise love. Amen
