The Power of Words

Words Kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit, you decide.  Proverbs 18:21 MSG

I was standing in a queue recently and sadly watched a man talking pretty nastily to his wife.  As he talked, she physically shrivelled and grew smaller.  It was like poison was creeping into her and life was ebbing from her.

I was quite surprised when I learnt that my husband’s Love Language was Affirming Words.  He seemed a pretty confident chap who didn’t need building up.  How wrong I was!  Over the years I’ve learnt that saying affirming things to him actually changes him physically, his face becomes lighter and he stands taller.  They bring him life!

Whether it’s our love language or not, how are we doing in affirming each other?  Are we building up or bringing down?

How about saying something affirming to each other right now?

Prayer (as a couple)

Father God, we’re sorry for the hurtful things we say to each other sometimes.  Please help us to forgive each other and help us to bring life to each other.  Amen

Prayer (for others)

Father God, we pray for _____ and _____ who seem have nothing nice to say to each other.  May they understand the power of their words.  Help them to be inspired with positive words of affirmation to say to each other.  Amen.

Quote

So encourage each other, build each other up as you are already doing.  1 Thess 5:11 NLT
