Issues and problems

‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.’ Genesis 2:24-25

Comment

A couple we know were having an issue and it was becoming a problem, it was threatening their relationship. God loves unity, particularly in marriage and depending on our response, issues can either come between us and become a problem, or they can unite us.

When we put our issues in front of us, draw together, listen to each other and unselfishly address the matter we become united and stronger – ‘It’s not your issue it’s our issue, we are a unit, we’ll solve it together.’

If we let our issues come between us we focus on ourselves, blame each other and we’re driven apart … the issue becomes a problem.

Prayer (as a couple)

Dear Lord, thank you for my partner … thank you that you have provided him/her for me. Thank you that as we draw together to face life in this world we become stronger and more united and a more effective witness for you. Help us not to let issues come between us and grow into problems. Help us to put issues in front of us and to address them together, in a way that pleases and glorifies you. Amen.

(You may also wish to pray for guidance as to how you deal with a specific issue which is worrying one or both of you).

Prayer (for others)

Dear Lord, we lift up ___ and ___ to you. Help them to remain united as they deal with ___ (an issue(s) that they face). Help them not to allow issues to become problems that drive them apart, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Final Quote

‘The important thing about a problem is not its solution, but the strength we gain in finding the solution.’
