In sickness and in health

‘The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.’ Deuteronomy 33:27

Comment

We have various friends who are struggling with sickness at the moment.  Having had a few episodes in our marriage during which I’ve been ill with depression, we were blown away by how much it affected the one in the marriage who wasn’t ill.  They were having to care, listen to the pain in their loved one and often keep quite about their own worries, fears and exhaustion.

Talking to a married couple recently who are struggling with cancer, we were inspired at how they were using the enforced inactivity and time on their own to pray and delve into more of God together. They had joined forces together, nestling under ‘God’s everlasting arms’ as, for them right now, there’s nowhere else to go.

Are there difficulties in your life that you could turn around and ‘join forces’ in?  Do you need to nestle together under ‘God’s everlasting arms’?

Prayer (as a couple)

Dear Lord, thank You that we can run to You whatever our circumstances.  Please comfort us now and help us to press into You so that we experience more of all you have to offer us.  Amen

Prayer (for others)

Heavenly Father, we pray for _______ and ________ who are struggling with sickness.  We pray that they will find comfort and healing under your everlasting arms.  Amen.

Final quote

In time of sickness the soul collects itself anew. (Latin Proverb)
